Behaviour & emotions
Behaviour and emotional regulation
Positive behaviour guidance rooted in understanding, not punishment.

Biting, hitting, bolting, refusing, melting down: for young children these are communication, not defiance. At The Nurture Nest we start by asking what the behaviour is telling us, then change the environment, the routine or the demand before we ever change the child. Our team is trained in co-regulation, and our rooms are built for it: calm colours, a sensory room, cosy dens and groups of three.
Emotional wellbeing sits at the centre of our practice. Predictable routines promote security, emotional-literacy activities give children words for feelings, and positive behaviour guidance is consistent across every adult and shared with home.

How we support this
Understand first
ABC records: what happened before, during and after, so patterns show.
Co-regulation
A calm adult, a calm space and time, every time.
Emotional literacy
Naming feelings with pictures, stories and puppets.
Predictable days
The same rhythm every day, with visual timetables and warnings before change.
Boundaries
Clear, kind and consistent, never shaming.
Home and nursery together
Workshops for parents on behaviour and sensory regulation.
What parents say
5.0★★★★★Google · 2 reviewsWe honestly couldn't be more impressed with this nursery. It's so refreshing to see a setting that is SEN-focused while being genuinely inclusive and welcoming to every child. It feels like they've created an environment where every child is seen as an individual and their needs are understood and supported. The nursery is exceptionally clean, bright and welcoming, with so much thought put into the imaginative play and activities. What really stands out is the level of one-to-one attention they give to each child.
The facilities at the nurture nest are outstanding! I have been coming to the stay and play for around 6 months with my 2 year old as I was slightly concerned that he was delayed in his speech.
Questions parents ask
Will my child be excluded for behaviour?
No. Behaviour is why many families come to us. We adjust the support, not the child’s place.
Do you use time-out or reward charts?
We use connection, co-regulation and clear boundaries rather than isolation or sticker charts.
What about biting other children?
Common at this age. We supervise closely, teach alternatives and keep every parent informed honestly.
Families come to us from
Southall, Hanwell and Ealing first, then Greenford, Northolt, Hayes, Norwood Green, Heston, Hounslow, Brentford and further across West London.
